Chapter 3.6: Citations & Definitions
When you are referencing a piece of work such as books, comics, etc. You are "Citing" them. You can do this by using the <cite> tag. The cite tag is not used much in HTML5 for someones name, but it was in HTML4 so many still carry the tradition.
<p>The <cite>Alex Rider</cite> series was written by Anthony Horowitz</p>
will make:
<p>The <cite>Alex Rider</cite> series was written by Anthony Horowitz</p>
will make:
The Alex Rider series was written by Anthony Horowitz
Now when your explaining something to someone to the first time, it is called "Defining" it. Well you use the <dfn> tag to say what your defining, and then you give the definition. So let us real quick go back to when I gave the definition of a sunspot. I did not use this tag because it was new to you, but since you know the <abbr> tag now and the <dfn> tag, I will now write that sentence properly.
<p><dfn><abbr title="Sunspots">S.S</abbr></dfn> are areas of the sun that are cooler than the rest</p>
will make:
<p><dfn><abbr title="Sunspots">S.S</abbr></dfn> are areas of the sun that are cooler than the rest</p>
will make:
S.S are areas of the sun that are cooler than the rest
(Different browsers will show this differently)
