Chapter 1: Introduction
Welcome! If your on this web page that means your interested in HTML but know probably nothing about HTML or scripting languages. and maybe you just want to increase your knowledge on it. Or just maybe the first part. Either way welcome to the article! Let's cover some of the basic questions and topics here and then we can do the real tutorials later in.
What is HTML?
Html is the "Hyper Text Markup Language". Now when you see that the first thing you probably notice is language. Well yes its like a language such as German, Spanish, etc. But its for computer only. It's the secret code behind every website that has ever existed in the history of the universe. HTML tho takes out of the English vocabulary and tells your web browser what a website should be made of. CSS (Cascade Styling Sheet) is what defines what the page should look like, but we will get to that later.
Do I need HTML to make a web page?
Yes you do, each web page is defined with HTML (the secret code your browser / computer reads ). Without it web pages wouldn't exist. But this doesn't necessarily mean that YOU have to program the HTML
Do I need to know HTML to make a website?
Depends on what kind of website your making, but if your looking for a fast way out without having to know the scripting language world. Then many websites will script it for you, such as the one I am using right now. You just Drag & Drop things onto your page and edit them, well the host will script the page for you.
If this website teaches HTML then why is it using a host that doesn't require knowing HTML?
Because when money is an issue it can be hard to get someone to host your scripts because well... Basically its like saying "Here's my stuff, please store it for me". Kind of like a storage unit. Only on the internet and this one is public. But you want that storage unit, you want to be able to store things there, why? Because when using HTML you are free to do whatever and get more control over anything at all. When your using a free hosting service or one that is Drag & Drop. Then your taking away 80% of control of your website. And of course later on once that storage unit has become too full you should decide to build your own shed (A Cloud Box) And host your items off yourself so then you have 100% control of everything you do. Do I recommend using free hosting services? No. Do I recommend using free hosting services if money is an issue? Only for as long as you need to, no more. As soon as you can afford it I suggest you switch to a Hosting Service that hosts scripts ASAP.
What is a host?
A host is basically a storage unit where you put your stuff, but instead of your moms old couch, you put in your scripts. The scripts then are public but not touchable, and allow people to view them. But then you also need a Name for your website which some hosts provide both but sometimes you have to buy them separately. Point is a host is a place to store your scripts.
